In my early days as a developer, Microsoft’s Windows was the primary operating system I was working with. And now that I’ve switched to macOS, there are a few conveniences that I miss from Windows.
One of them is the ability to peek into the windows in the Windows Taskbar. This is especially useful when working with multiple windows and you want to quickly check out what’s going on in one of them with a small preview of the window’s content.
macOS is sort of missing this feature but a new open-source app called DockDoor has been released that adds this functionality to macOS.
The app allows users to manage and interact with application windows on their desktops. It emphasizes ease of use and seamless integration with the macOS environment.
Once installed, DockDoor needs the accessibility permissions as well as the screen recording permissions enabled for it to work correctly.
Once done, you can now peek into the open windows in the dock like so.
Apart from showing the little preview of the window, it also gives you the buttons to quit, minimize, close, and toggle the full-screen mode of the window.
As for cons, for some reason, the app doesn’t show the preview of the minimized window which is a bummer in my opinion. But I heard, the developer is working on bringing this feature to the app.
Since the app is pretty new, there is still room for improvement and I’m sure it’s only going to get better from this point onwards.
