LookAway — Smart breaks for healthy eyes and a focused mind

Five minutes into a client call, the demo was finally cruising and then my Mac flashed the tiny red battery icon I’d been ignoring. The screen dimmed, my heart sank, and I started bargaining with physics. I didn’t make it.

That was the last time I let a subtle menu bar indicator decide my fate. And I’m pretty sure you might have had the same experience at some point. It’s pretty easy to miss the “red” battery icon.

And that’s where an app called Plug That In, that I recently stumbled across, can come in handy.

It’s a nice (or “annoying” as the homepage suggest) little app that start displaying battery alerts when it goes below a certain threshold. These are not your regular battery alerts. The alerts chases your cursor around the screen, making it hard to ignore.

The app has a bunch of customizations that you can adjust from the preferences such as the notification style, sound, duration of the notification, longer reminders, and more. You can even customize the message in the notification as per your liking.

I think this app is a must-have for anyone who works on a Mac and has a habit of forgetting to charge their device. I’m liking the app so far and I’m sure it will save me from a few more near-disasters in the future.

It’s a simple idea, executed really well—and honestly, it’s already earning its place in my toolkit.
