When you work with a lot of files, the one thing you might be doing every time is to rename them.
A practical scenario for bulk renaming files is when organizing a collection of photographs. For instance, let’s say you have hundreds of photos from a vacation, and you want to rename them to follow a consistent naming convention that includes the date and a sequence number.
You can surely do this manually, but it would be a tedious task. And if you have a lot of files, it would be even more time-consuming.
I recently stumbled upon a free app called Transnomino by an indie developer Bastiaan Verreijt that can make this process much easier. The app lets you rename files in bulk.
It provides a bunch of options for renaming files. This includes prefixing, suffixing, and even replacing the words in the file name. You can number the files, or you can use a regular expression to rename them.
Here’s an example of how you can use it.
As you can tell, here I’m trying to rename a batch of images that starts with Xnip
which I want to replace with Screenshot-
. The app effortlessly let me do that with a pretty minimal but functional UI.
If you’re in the market for a bulk file renamer, I would highly recommend giving this app a try!
